Old Pierre a 1930s teddy bear,with light golden mohair, replaced orange and black glass eyes, pronounced muzzle, black stitched nose and mouth, swivel head, jointed limbs, oil-cloth pads and recent sailors jacket 19 1/2in. (49.5cm.) high (slight wear and fading)

Emile Thiennot was among the earliest of the French Teddy Bear makers. He initially worked for Marcel Pintel before setting up his own toy manufacturing company in 1919 out of Piney under the name Le Jouet Champenois. In 1920 Thiennot won an award of quality in a teddy bears competition held in his native France. Pierre is a rare bear of pure French class.
