American Elmer Toy Co 14″ teddy bear. He is in great condition and comes with an award he won in 1944.
Provenance: at some stage of this bear’s life he became the property of an American girl called Dorcas Aunger who entered him into a doll contest in 1944 run by the Department of Playground and Recreation City of Los Angeles where she won first place (see photo’s).
With a triangle shaped head, golden mohair, cupped ears, small black boot button eyes, pronounced muzzle, black stitched mouth and claws, remains of red felt tongue, jointed limbs with first place ribbon and ‘Tie that bull outside’ US political pin, some repairs to pads, slight wear, eyes appear small and possibly replaced. Nose has felt backing with holding stitching but missing nose stitching.
A great piece of history and a cute teddy.
