Super rare 1930’s Chad Valley Teddy Tails character toy.
Meet ‘Teddy Tail’ the rare and unusual Chad Valley dressed mouse/teddy.
Teddy Tail is just over 13″ tall from the soles of his feet to the tips of his ears with a jointed head. He was a cartoon character drawn by Charles Folkard in the early 1920’s who then became a mascot toy for the Daily Mail which featured the cartoon strip. There are many books and annuals
featuring Teddy tails from the 1920’s up to the 1940’s but the soft toys are extremely rare indeed.
This ‘Teddy Tail’ has a cloth body with a velvet head and paws with integral black felt boots, grey felt trousers, a red felt waistcoat and a black velvet jacket. He is slightly playworn as you would expect from an 85 year old toy but considering his age ‘Teddy Tail’ is in overall excellent condition
with all his original features intact except his missing tail. He has a red and white ‘Chad Valley’ label on the sole of his right foot and a badge on his jacket which reads ‘TT DAILY MAIL’ and he dates to circa 1930. He has a Chad Valley paper tag.
Teddy tails is a very rare Chad Valley toy and I have only seen a one other like him in my years of collecting and dealing in soft toys and bears.
