SOLD Barnaby is a lovely and quite unusual Chiltern bear made in the late 1930s, early 1940s. Made during a time when materials were scarce and in short supply he has some interesting characteristics. He has three black claw and foot paw stitches opposed to the more familiar four and his pads are made from a thick cotton, canvas like material. This perhaps was experimental but more likely due to availability, and an attempt to reduce the amount of material used on each bear. Not quite the flat face hugmee he still has quite a pointed muzzle and he has the raised outer stitches on his nose stitching. He his a great example of the evolving Chiltern bear. His mohair is patchy and bare in places and his middle claw stitch on his right paw is broken. His glass eyes are not original to him but were kindly donated to him by an extremely poorly 1940s Chiltern bear who I could not save, so they are authentic Chiltern eyes. He measures 14 inches when lying down. His head is wood wool filled and his body is soft stuffed. Barnaby has the most lovely shape and the most friendly face, he really is a lovely little fellow. He will come in his handmade dungarees that he was wearing when he came to me, I have cleaned them as they were a little grubby and there is a tiny hole on the back of them but they fit him so well I am sure they must have been made for him.
