Emile Thiennot was among the earliest of the French Teddy Bear makers. He initially worked for Marcel Pintel before setting up his own toy manufacturing company in 1919 out of Piney under the name Le Jouet Champenois. In 1920 Thiennot won an award of quality in a teddy bears competition held in his native France.
